Leak Detection
If you have been sent a letter from your local council stating that you are experiencing high water consumption, before calling us use our simple checklist.
| 1. |
Is the hot water cylinder overflowing? In older homes there is an exhaust pipe that protrudes through the roof and in more modern homes a relief valve drain that will go to an outside wall or run over a waste drain outlet outside. If this is overflowing, one of the valves in your hot water cylinder needs repair or replacement Call us and we will attend to the problem.
|
| 2. |
Is the toilet cistern overflowing into the toilet bowl? Sometimes this is hard to detect so double up some toilet paper and place it at the back of the toilet bowl, if it becomes wet, either your ballcock or flushing valve in the toilet cistern needs attention Call us and we will attend to the problem.
|
| 3. |
If you encounter neither of these problems there is a good chance that your water main maybe leaking, or in the case of modern homes with plastic water pipes a leak in the ceiling, floor or walls.

Firstly make sure all taps are turned off and locate the water meter box at the front entrance to your property. The box contains a water meter and a shut off valve.
|
| 5. |
Is the water meter ticking over? If you are unable to do this because the meter is buried under dirt turn off the shut off valve and wait one minute and then turn it back on again. Did you hear water running through the meter? If so you will have a water leak somewhere on the property so call us and we will attend to your problem.

| 6. |
